Will the carburetor run perfect out of the box?
Will the carburetor run perfect out of the box?
Every bike is unique, so while we try our best to set up the carburetor to work great right from the start, they might not be a perfect fit for every bike. Most bikes will work fine with the settings we provide, but you might need to tweak the carb a bit to suit your ride. Before you start adjusting, give our base settings a go - they're usually spot on and don't need much fiddling. If your bike's running too rich or too lean after you first install it, hold up! Double-check your installation and make sure your engine's in good shape. Remember, these carbs are pretty sensitive to things like weak reed seals and air leaks because they work off engine pressure. For tips on tuning and fixing problems, check out the tuning guide on our website. And if you're still stuck, don’t hesitate to reach out to us for more help.
How do I start the bike after replacing the carburetor?
How do I start the bike after replacing the carburetor?
The easiest way to start your bike is as follows:
- Turn on the fuel.
- Turn on the choke.
- Gently kick the bike over 3 to 5 times. This primes the choke and finds the top dead center (TDC), but don't touch the throttle.
- Now, give it one strong kick to start the bike, still without using the throttle. It should fire up on this kick. Once it's running, turn off the choke right away because it's set very rich. You might need to rev the throttle a bit to keep it going while you're turning off the choke.
- If it doesn't start after 3 strong kicks, switch off the choke for the next tries to prevent flooding. If you're often needing more than 5 kicks to start, there might be a tuning issue or a mechanical problem with your bike.
- If it just won't start, block all but one vent line with your thumb and blow into the open vent for about 2 seconds. This primes the engine. It's a quick fix to get the bike running and figure out any deeper issues, but it's not a long-term solution.

- Double-check that the carburetor is installed correctly, with all connections, like fuel lines and air intake, properly attached and leak-free.
- Ensure that ignition-related electrical connections are in good condition.
- Ensure there a good seal between the carburetor and intake manifold to avoid air leaks.
- Verify there’s enough fuel in the tank and it’s reaching the carburetor.
- Check the spark plug for signs of wear and ensure it’s sparking properly.
- Check the air intake system for any blockages and try starting it with the air filter removed.
- Adjust the bike idle and mixture settings.
- Adjust the size of the jets in the carburetor.
If you have checked all of these and still have a problem, the carburetor may not be the right size for your bike.
